First of all - your puppy's being "shaved" when she was young - didn't affect or cause the type of hair she has now. She would have had this same new hair anyway.
My pup is 7 months old - and I have deliberately kept him short and will for quite a while. It's just easier for both of us and it keeps him looking neat and clean.
My pup does have silk hair. So, if I do decide to let it get longer, it should be relatively easy to care for. Nevertheless, I am sure longer hair is more work. I just don't want to go there yet!
