Just speaking from my own experience...

When we had a senior Maltese girl, we opted to spend all our time with her alone. Not that it ever crossed our minds, but if we were to introduce a new dog to her, I'm sure it would have made her uneasy and unhappy - the puppy energy, the feeling like she's might be neglected etc. She was used to being the one and only one, and we would definitely wanted to keep her happy that way until she passed.

Senior dogs can also be a lot of work...depending on their conditions.

I have two Yorkies right now. They're 1.5 years apart. Even with a small age gap, it took quite some time for my older boy to accept her new sister. lol
