It is 8 square feet. It has just enough room for his bed, food/water, puppy pad tray and a few toys.

Our pup is good with morning pees. If I bring him to the pad first thing in the morning, he will pee. But, most times he will go on the floor if I dont bring him directly to the pad. He never poos on the pad either.. Once I come home from work and bring him out of the pen he will go on the pad. Other than that he is usually at home with my husband, unsupervised Im sure, having free reign peeing on all the door mats and in the halls.

I work 8am to 4pm, 4 days a week. And my husband works shifts. I really would like the dog to be on my schedule. But I feel bad leaving him in his pen all day. I dont plan to use the pen forever. Only until we are comfortable leaving him in the house accident free.

We are a busy family with 2 kids. I dont always have the time to 100% supervise him. Between dinner baths bed and hmwk it gets tricky.

Does your pup stay crated during the day?
How often do you take him out to play and for how long/often?
During the training period should i be keeping him in the pen more often than not?

Thank you!
Hi there,

I'm using the same X-pen as you, but mine is only about 72X36 (so, roughly 6' by 3'). My little girl Dutch, right at six months old, does not have free run of the house.

Dutch has spent most of her time either in the X-pen or on our bed (where there is a potty pad). She also spends time with us on sofas, benches, etc. She has a potty pad inside the pen, but we have also set up a pad outside the pen--just so that we have a pad where we "place her" when it's time to go and she's not in the pen.

At 8 square feet, your X-pen is much larger than mine.

My rule of thumb is pretty simple--less than 100% supervision is not supervision. Lil' Dutch is only loose in the house during play time--and then she's usually "zooming" around, which is pretty fun for all of us.
