I am going to take a real simplistic approach if you get a puppy be prepared for accidents, if you are re homing an older dog ditto. Bio break routines are a god send. You can also try Leashing doggie around your waist so he or she must stay close to you and you have a better chance to intervene. Limit free run time to supervised run time in home.
