All of my Yorkies have had them. Yorkies are very short, are way down on the floor or sidewalk or lawn where the minute bits of pollen, dust, detritus are stirring and are so short their eyes are like magnets for all of that. Particles in eyes, eyes tear and wash out onto the corners of the eyes/muzzle, where, if left, they can form into pus-like eye boogers. Tibbe is not that much taller than the St. Augustine grass on my property so his little eyes collect a good bit of stuff from playing in the yard, ripping around through the grass chasing squirrels!

I think their little eyes, which often tear, are like dust mops for particles our feet or the wind might stir up, then their tears wash out the particles to the edges of their eyes where they can form as eye boogers. Dogs with bad allergies can actually ooze pus from their eyes.

I just gave up worrying about eye boogers and clean Tibbe's eyes, muzzle/face, head, body, feet, tummy all over with a double wet paper towel twice daily. One end of the towel is quite wet and I lay that over his eyes to soften any eye goo he's collected, then very gently wipe that wettest part of the towel over his closed eyelids one eye at a time and down out onto the muzzle, all the way to the end of his mustache. I follow that up with the flea comb and carefully comb, wash through the area in the inside corners of the eyes until all the hair is totally clean and clear. You then have to soap wash the flea comb and be sure it's dry before using it again. Every couple of days I spray disinfectant on it, leave it a bit and then rinse it over and over before drying.

Tibbe is so short and his coat is just like a dust mop - catching dust, particles and leaves from the grass, sidewalk and floor so a going over twice a day with a damp double paper towel keeps his eyes clean and clear, his coat cleaner, his feet cleaner, smelling better and the area over his penis free of urine stain. I end up with a few swipes over his perianal area with the unused portion of the paper towel and he's fresh again. Twice a day and you have only small bits of eye boogers occasionally. He stays a lot fresher and neater between baths this way.
