Sticking a dogs nose in it's mess comes from my grandfather's days, that's how they trained puppies not to poop in the house, this method was the only way they knew how to train puppies in house breaking, this goes back to the 1940's, that's where your cousin is coming from, "the old days". Read the articles KatysMom gave you. Your cousin will never change her mind on how to potty train a dog. It is obvious dogs to her are just dogs. You will find ppl are not understanding and comments like "it's just a dog" is a phrase you will hear often. You will learn who not to vent to lol, that's why there is a YT, a community that is eager to help members with issues they have had and what worked for them. I have had Poodles and mini Schnauzers which I loved dearly, but yorkies are a very special breed, they are very childlike, having a yorkie is like having a toddler for life. Only a yorkie owner would understand. Do not listen to what ever your cousin tells you about raising dogs if she tells you to stick her nose in the poop.And never swat with a newspaper, another 1940 punishment.
