I agree with the no surgery. With our last dog we kept being told her knees were bad and needed to be fixed (although, she was in pain so it was necessary) and we had her surgery done when she was 4. Nine months later she ruptured her CCL and needed another surgery and a year and a half later she tore the other CCL (no surgery as she wasn’t cleared for anesthesia due to other health issues). We learned that it is common to rupture the ligament after the LP surgery.

If your little guy isn’t in pain and is doing well, I would just leave him as is.
