I've had many foster dogs and a few of my own in this house over the years but none of them but Tibbe growls himself to sleep. At night when he's all cuddled down with me & starting to drift off to sleep, he growls off and on till asleep. He's done it ever since I got him at age 9 mos. & has done so right along. Doesn't do it hardly ever if he's sleeping farther than arm's length from me but if we're all cuddled up close or he's very near me, it's growl-a-bye nights. Only dog I've ever known to do this.
