There is *some* thought that the enzymes still contained in raw meat (killed in cooked/processed meats) may help in better digestion of food in the mouth (since dogs don't release the enzyme amylase in their mouths as we do), thereby resulting in less dental issues.
I'm a raw feeder, and I think that philosophy does not hold water. Perhaps the enzymes help a teensy tiny bit -- but it's not provable, most certainly not reliable in any way, and I would not consider it a 'benefit' in feeding raw food.
With my 3 yorkies (all fed raw from a young age) -- dental issues are purely genetic and structural - just like in humans. No different.
Things I would recommend for dental concerns: brushing teeth, and adding Healthy Mouth to your daily regimen for your kiddos (VOHC approved product, btw).
