My vet will only dock at 3-5 days old. I used to keep it in that time frame until one time it just wasn't possible and ended up being 8 days. He did them anyway because they are such a small breed. The next visit I had, I let him know that I was going to do future litters at at least 7 days old. They seemed to do much better without nearly the crying they did at 3-5 day old.

I'm glad someone posted pictures here showing what a yorkie looks like without the tail docked. I've been very curious how they would look and have considered not docking. But, will probably dock in the future anyway because that's what most expect.
