It's been a very long time since I posted here but I'm hoping someone can help. My 13 year old Abbie has advanced stage kidney failure. She has cataracts and has gone from partial sight to completely blind over the course of 3 days. We are moving my son and his chihuahua into our house this weekend and I asked the vet for something to reduce her anxiety to help her get through what I know will be a stressful week or two for her. They prescribed Tramadol with each 50mg pill cut into quarters or a 12.5mg dosage. Abbie weighs 3.8 pounds or 1.73kg. The vet uses Plumbs Veterinary Drug Book and I checked there and it says 5mg/kg up to 10mg/kg if the lower dose isn't enough.
Every other source I've found online uses a dosage of .45 to 1.8/lb. Im worried that I may overdose her. Any help? What would you do?
