Lightbulb A thought....

I think your older dog is trying to say who is in charge... We have a 12 year old Lhasa.. and she was the alpha dog when her brother was alive... Now she just lays around... We are bring home a 10 week old pup this weekend... and I know I am going to have to monitor the interaction between the two..

My old gal is not going to want to play all the time... where as the young pup will be full of energy (like any young pup should be)... The old gal will snip to say "I have had enough..." but that snip may be a bit dangerous for a young pup...

I would separate them when you are not around... and monitor their together time... Until your puppy is old enough to hold his own!
