The only time high protein is bad for kidneys is if there is something wrong with the kidneys. I much prefer higher protein for my dogs (and myself!), rather than higher carb...we all know what a more carb-based diet can do.
Stellas is a great brand - as is Natures Variety, Primal, and there is Sojos where you can just add your own meat.
