It could also be reverse sneezing. My youngest girl does it when she gets excited. My oldest has collapsing trachea and it has not gotten worse over the years it has stayed the same. The same went for my moms rescue. In a lot of dogs it will just stay the same. It can be managed with medicine. You probably need to talk to your vet about it.
