It's common for many children with autism have sensory issues. Does he exhibit sensitivities to other things such as sound, light or touch (different textures)? Sensory Integration therapy has been utilized by occupational therapists to help children with autism deal with sensory issuses. Are you familiar with sensory integration therapy? Are there any specialists at his school that provide services for your child? Perhaps someone there may be able to give you info re: whether he may be a candidate? I'd also get another doctor to check him out.
