AKC offers an insurance policy. Is that any good. My new litter when they are old enough to leave the nest will have a 60 trial for the new parents. I use to work for a vet as well. Most good vets will not charge you unrealistic prices, and if they do you need to find someone else. Their cost to provide the service is well below what they charge to perform it.
Annabelle has been to the animal hospital 3 days in a row, and we probably have spent 12+ hours there. Our bill has yet to be over 100. Cheap is not always better, you definitly have to meet the people and maybe get referrals from people you know.
