I don't mean to be obtuse, but is the conservatory? I agree with others that keeping him close is probably better for his anxiety, but am sorry that I cannot offer substantial advice. Piper is sort of a rescue and she certainly has her idiosyncrasies, like barking at everyone who comes in house and she just won't stop. I can't just leave her to work it out with visitor as she's prone to snap/bite. It's a huge dilemma for me, so in that regard, I deeply sympathize with your situation.
