Default Night barking

I hear you!! I have a barky dog who is worse at night.
He is the best watch dog and seems more sensitive to noises and perhaps people or wildlife outside at night. He hears or smells things we do not and sometimes I will take him out the front door when he will run to the front gate to check things out and then come back and be quiet. Also I wonder if he dreams and gets scared? I do find that if he is on my bed he is quieter, so I think he likes to know where I am at all times to protect me. If he is in the bedroom at night when I watch tv, he hates some noises and I have to be quick on the mute button!
I certainly would persist with having him in the bedroom with you, it will help his anxiety.
I know if my neighbor next door has her son’s dog with her, my dog will bark if the other dog barks or is let out to potty.
Our dog was rescued too and we never know what fears they come to us with. Mine sure hates noise, and fireworks are really stressful for him.
So good luck and hope he improves with time.
