There is not much real research to show that removing dew claws causes issues. I am a fan of removing the dew claws. There is not much if any research showing dew claws are necessary. I grew up with a dog that had terrible dew claw issues. Callie also got hers stuck and pulled it all the way off with nerve and vein exposed. The reason I hate them is due to injury not just grooming convenience. Unlike tail docking that is done just for looks I feel that dew claw removal really is done for health issues.
