Thanks for the continued kind words, everyone, and for your concern for Jillie.
My wife and I are working real hard to get Jillie past this trauma. Eddie had been in her life for all of her nine years, and we definitely see the changes in her demeanor.
She started off seeming especially needy, and we catered to her every wish for play time or attention. The swim trip you mentioned was a reward, and she seemed to enjoy it. In addition, I'm taking her to the dog park almost every day for interaction with doggy friends she knows and doesn't. We're also dogsitting for a bichon for a couple weeks, and I think that's helped too.
Main thing is keeping her busy and trying to continue her routine. I noticed I stopped playing "nosework" with Jillie. That was a game she and Eddie played together, and it was so much fun I played it religiously every day. So I'm trying to add that back in the routine.
