It's at about this time that the structure of his bite will be obvious to the more-or-less trained eye. A simple vet check will give you a lot of comfort on this issue. As well, it will uncover any common dental issues that could have developed.

When my later senior was a bit older than your guy but still a sweet young thing, our vet advised us on which kibble to feed--he picked the kibble based on the size and structure of her bite.

P.S. I know my later senior preferred to have her kibble served on a small dish--she struggled if it was served in a bowl.
