My late senior played with balls for a few weeks when she was a tiny tot. At that time, an older yorkie was staying with us. Katy seemed mostly interested in keeping the ball away from the older dog--who of course wanted nothing to do with the young pup.
I'm now a wanna-be yorkie pet parent, hoping for pitter patter of paws in a few months. Ever hopeful the new baby will want to play, have picked up a couple--one says it is bacon flavored:
