Dr. Ford had Bernard make some control ball for him. Without Bernard truly knowing what it was for at the time. But dr. Ford some how stuck him self in the west
and waited for Bernard to access this control ball. Because he was still controlling things in the west somehow... once Bernard went in that brain machine to the west dr. Ford jumped in Bernard then brain and then I think benard have schizophrenia now. When dr ford was talking to Bernard in the west he said basically he chose a more sophisticated way to live for ever. Because everyone else wanted their brain to survive in a robot in the real world which doesn't work an they start to degrade. So I feel like dr. Ford finesse Arnold recarnation and some how hopped on his being/mind like a parosite to live for ever. Because Bernard is a robot.
