Our Guardian Gear with three inflatable tires has lasted for years. Three tires makes the stroller more maneuverable, and inflatable tires makes the ride less bumpy, especially on asphalt or gravel. It's like the difference between riding a bicycle with inflatable tires or one with solid tires. I had one with solid tires as a child, and it was very jarring--after I switched to inflatable, I never looked back. A stroller with a dog in it should be fairly light weight, so cactus needles shouldn't be much of a problem. You'd have to run the stroller over tacks or nails to pop a tire.
