Yes, it's true. I know, it sounds harsh. There are different ways to go about "docking" the tail. Most breeders actually cut it off on the 2nd or 3rd day after birth. You're friend is right! There are a lot of people opting to keep the tail long these days, but for the most part, the standard calls for it to be docked.
