Pet supply stores such as Pet Supplies Plus, PetSmart and PetCo, are stores that I use to purchase various things. This is my peeve with these stores, their doggie clothes are tagged as size Tcup or tea cup, then xxsm, xsm, small, etc. I believe this is another reason why ppl refer to their tiny pups as teacups, what the heck, the label on clothes are tagged that way and manufactures are never wrong . It's very hard to educate owners of tiny dogs there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. Yorkies come in one size which is standard, like you stated 0 to 7 pounds. Yorkies are not classified as lets say poodles where you have 3 sizes, toy, miniature and standard. Take your Golden retrievers, the Labrador retriever, you will find many under the standard weight or height, they are just Golden retrievers and Labs. Same with the yorkie, although they are smaller then a show dog yorkie that has to weigh between 5 to 7 pounds to be shown, they are still just yorkies, not teacups. Breeders use this term to sell tiny pups for big bucks, and the breeders that breed only for tiny dogs are not reputable breeders, they do not see healthy puppies, the see big bucks. A yorkie is a yorkie, only size is standard. If it makes people feel special to say they have a teacup well, then there is no educating the public.
