I feel as though I almost have to disagree with that statement. Certainly there are a number of breeders who breed for show with health in mind, and there’s some who don’t and instead are only concerned with the looks of the dog. For example you might come across a breeder who will breed with luxating patellas even though that’s a known genetic issue. And in different countries with different cultures and different attitudes regarding breeding, you may encounter tons of breeders who just breed for looks with little regard to the health of the dog and the puppies produced in a litter. I’ve heard that’s a reputation amongst many breeders in Russia, for example. Just because someone breeds for show doesn’t necessarily mean they consistently have healthy puppies.
