Don’t know if this might work for your puppy. Our PT said to think of an ounce as a pound. That made me feel better. I was disappointed because we still don’t have waists.

dogs are not like humans where they can loose weight fast like humans do. It took me 8 months to get 2 pounds of my boy, a slow process but necessary. He's a big boy now back to his 12 pounds. I substituted 1/4 cup kibble for 1/4 cup frozen cut green bean, he LOVES his green beans lol.
