I have contacted breeders on the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. Many of the breeders seem to concentrate more of their efforts on showing their dogs.

I am looking for a Yorkie that is pet quality with a good temperament and good bloodlines re: health going back several generations.

Would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have for me.
What you want is a breeder that shows for competition. Reason for this is, the breeder puts a lot of time, effort, work and money checking the genetics generations back of the dogs that they breed to ensure there are no genetic defects. What that breeder wants is the best quality in their show dogs. In a litter of pups the breeder looks for show quality in their pups, not all or any of the pups may qualify for "showing". There are standards for showing, ear placement, length, height, many other things for "showing" a dog. The breeder will sell the pups that cannot compete for "showing", and what the buyer gets is a healthy, no genetic flaw, good temperament, good bloodlines, a dog that qualifies as pet only. You are not buying a "show" dog, you are buying a "healthy" dog. So when you see a breeder that shows their dogs, run, do not walk to that breeder, there you will find what you are looking for.
