Human shampoo is more alkaline than should be used on a dog's coat on a regular basis. Most of the popular baby shampoo, though they do not sting the eyes, are also alkaline. The human ph is different than a dog's. Most of the more popular dog shampoos contain sulfate and other chemicals that strip the coat of its needed natural oils. When you use those products it causes the skin to produce even more oil to make up for what was lost. That is why within a few days after a bath your dog is greasy as before. Some companies add a natural ingredient and some conditioners in an attempt to counteract that stripping action. The coat smells good and feels nice temporarily but there are no truly long lasting effects and if your dog has a skin problem you will not achieve any healing effects.

You can find good all natural dog shampoos but you have to search online usually. Yorkie Splash is a very good shampoo for normal skin. They make it at home from all natural ingredients. You can find it on the Yorkieshamoo.com website. If your dog already has a serious skin problem you may need something with a few more healing properties in it. There is nothing natural or healing about putting chemicals on your pet's skin. (Or your own for that matter) We all are used to reaching for whatever the corporate people want to sell us. Baby shampoo may work on your pet's face but there are other natural products that are safer. You should not let anything but water get in their eyes anyway.
