I had my first yorkie (Chloe) for 17 years without any problems until the end. She died of renal failure. I never even had her spayed, I just watched her well & she really was not around other dogs. I did take her to the vet but never treated for ticks, fleas etc. So who knows. But the less chemicals the better. |
Not spaying a dog is not just about watching them around other dogs there is an increased risk of mammary cancer for every heat they got through and then as they get older there is a huge chance they can get poymentra which will kill them and even if you get the emergency spay when they get it I have seen many many dogs still die within a few weeks. Anesthesia is VERY safe. Titer tests are also not reliable at this time much more research is needing to be done. I hope you give heart worm prevention at least because if your dog gets heart worms the treatment can kill them and if it doesn't it will leave them with lasting heart issues. I get sometimes it can be scary but really there isn't anything proving vaccines, heart worm prevention and so on cause any bad health issues.
