Bella's new vet doesn't insist on yearly blood work and urinalysis until the age of 5 unless there is a specific issue wrong with her. I requested it be done this time. However, I thought those were two standard practices for a yearly check up?
Additionally, with the vaccines he did offer a 2 year distemper vaccine instead of the yearly one. So I got that in addition to the 3 year rabies shot. This way she only needs her bordatella every 6 months now. I never heard of the 2 year distemper so happy he offered it instead of the yearly shot.
Would love to know what everyone requests to be done during the yearly exam. |
Blood work specifically heart worm tests should be done yearly and should be required before getting another prescription of heart worms meds. A fecal should be done yearly as well. If your vet is giving distemper yearly you need to switch ASAP because he is not doing what is best for your dog. That vaccine should be every 3 to 5 years not yearly because yearly is over vaccinating. Bordatella can also be done yearly. My dogs go to the vet year round for stuff. They get blood work and fecal yearly, my older girl gets a urine test as well. They get bordatella yearly, Lyme yearly, disimper every 3 years and rabies every 3 years. We make sure to her heart worm meds and flea and tick meds. They also look at their teeth to see if a dental is needed.
