Default I don't understand why people dye their dogs' hair

The video in the article is pretty disturbing, but you can just read through the article. The poor Maltese nearly died from burns because their dumb owner decided they wanted a purple dog. Makes me so angry.

In the past, I've noticed some dog owners dying their dog's hair from now and then and it always made me cringe. Usually a tuff here or there - either their ears, tails, or paws. I just really don't get it. It's harmful chemicals (that frankly I don't like much either - it stings my scalp). I believe dog's have a different pH system than humans do (maybe someone with more knowledge can confirm this). Seeing that dogs don't have a choice, it's not really fair to be applying these harmful chemicals on them like this. It pained me so much to read about this one though. The poor girl. It's just so awful. The article didn't mention anything about punishment to the owner either for animal cruelty!

What do you guys think? Am I the only one who wants to scream "Please do not dye your dog's hair!"

PS: I don't know why people paint their dog's nails either!
