Sometimes I wonder about these vets you really need to do your homework before you go ahead with their advice. I had an avian vet break my parrots neck right in front of me and he denied it. If I had a new dog I would definitely would try the flu vaccine on it but for some reason Kinder could not tolerate it. As for me I have bad allergies and my doctor will not give me the flu and shingles shot because of my low immunity from allergies. That shingles is awful my father had on his head and after it went away he had bad headaches the rest of his life. You are lucky you can take the shingles shot and I think I am going to ask at Walgreens and see what they say for me. Best wishes to you with that shot. susan
Sorry to hear about your experience with your vet. If the first of the two shot series gave a bad reaction, I can't imagine the vet wanting to continue with the second shot.

The new Shingrix shingles vaccine is supposed to be more effective and give fewer side effects than the old vaccine. My doctor wouldn't allow me to get the old Zostavax vaccine, but it was okay for me to get the new one. However, if you have allergies, I'd be very cautious and make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in the new vaccine. Walgreens should have that information. Best wishes to you as well!
