Picking a dog up by the scruff of it's neck is from my grandfathers days, and still used by some uneducated about animals people. Ppl just do not know how to handle animals. With all my dogs, as pups and even as adults, I scoop them up, right hand under their butts, left hand under their front legs against their chest. I see ppl picking dogs up by placing their hands under the front legs, arm pits....ouch.
