Well, ya know, if someone poked me with a needle without warning, I'd probably growl at them, too!

I think the important thing to do there is to take her back at odd times just to visit and have treats. You don't want her thinking that every time she goes to that place, she gets hurt. If she does, she'll likely growl/snap at the vet every time she goes. Don't ask me how I know!

Also, I wouldn't make the assumption that she is being alpha or dominant. More likely, she is responding out of fear!
