Your vet did not suggest prescription food? That is what I would do at least until you can get him stable and not vomiting.
PLEASE don't go reading things on the internet to look for a food. There is SO much misinformation out there.!!!

I have a pup with GI issues....we put her on Hill's Science Diet Prescription Food...ID Low Fat. She is doing fantastic on it! Call your vet and ask about it.
