If someone can’t understand a pup that’s 2 pounds is tiny that’s on them not you. The word is not good and associates you with bad breeding. People who breed for these tiny “teacup” dogs use females that are under 5 pounds and risk their lives. It’s not just a word to those of us who are serious about and love this breed. Talk to some reputable breeders and they to will show hatred for the word and refuse to be associated with it. The standard is not to exceed 7 pounds so any dog 7 pounds and under is standard. People just want to throw teacup out there toget more money and sell quicker.
Just because standard says a yorkie is not to exceed 7 pounds doesn't mean anything there are tons of over sized yorkies and if you ask their owners they will tell you their yorkie is small or tiny. It also doesn't help that Europe tends to breed dogs on the larger scale according to their standards perfect example Europe's ideal size for Maltese a toy breed also is 8-10 pounds while in the US the ideal size is 4-6 pounds. Huge differences such as these affect the breed especially when people import to introduce new bloodlines. This is happening with most if not all breed clubs all have what they think is ideal for a breed and when people import it causes a large variation within the breed. So if using the term teacup which is just a word to describe the size of a puppy or dog is wrong but saying a dog is tiny is better please explain the difference because I don't understand it both literally mean the same thing. IMO people put to much emphasis on a word it's not the word that should be negative it's the practice breeders are using that should determine whether they are BYB or reputable. As a breeder myself I see no harm in using occasionally teacup as a descriptive word to help people understand the size of course I'm not telling people this is a category I'm just describing the size the breed is a toy breed and therefore should be small anyway so saying a puppy will be small or tiny most people think well of course it's going to be small it's a yorkie so using other words to give them idea of the size is helpful especially if they are in another state and can't personally see the size of the dog your describing and pictures and videos don't really help show size even when use objects as a reference. As for the price point I have seen reputable breeders sell puppies who are going to be on the smaller size for more with the excuse they are more high maintenance and they want to be sure the family is not only capable of caring for the puppy but also financially capable of caring for the puppy and it's needs. While at the time I have seen people on here admit it's ok for breeders to charge more colors. Why is ok for reputable breeders to charge more based on color but not size? Both are superficial correct? The same health cleared titled parents produce these puppies yet one is priced way higher just because it's color might be better and that's fine but if 1 puppy is smaller than the other and to charge more for that smaller puppy would be wrong for what reason? Unlike color size does/can affect the health of a puppy and everyone knows the smaller the dog the higher maintenance the dog is so following this I would hope they would charge a higher price to ensure the buyer is capable of handling anything that might happen.
