Welcome to YT, I never crated any of my puppies so I have no advise to help you through this, but I have to tell you this,. No puppy should be taken from their mother at 7 weeks old, that's the law. The law allows some states to sell puppies when they are 8 weeks old, some states can only sell when puppy is 12 weeks old. At 7 weeks old this puppy has not even had his first puppy shot, I do hope you have a vet appointment for this baby for his first puppy vaccine which is started at 8 weeks old. Puppies should stay with the momma until they are 12 weeks old, in this time the momma is teaching her babies bite inhibition, the ability to control the pressure of his mouth when biting, to cause little or no damage, litter mates also play a role in this as well, momma is teaching her babies socialization skills, and in some cases even helping with potty training. The deed is done and you now have this little baby that was taken away form the momma and his littler mates way to soon. Crate training, potty training any training is going to take much longer because of his age. Please keep Nutri-cal on hand in case he should go into Hypoglycemia, being so young, every day, twice a day I would put a dab of Nutri-cal on the tip of my finger and have him lick it off, just as a preventive measurement. Make sure there is always food in his bowl so he can eat when ever he wants to and always have fresh water available for him, and PLEASE, do NOT bring this baby outdoors until he has had all his vaccines. Many ppl use X-pens or Iris pens, these are large enough to fit a crate in it with plenty of room for pads, food, water, toys, and roaming / playing room, now the puppy does not feel trapped in a closed crate. I do agree, a wee lil baby cannot be given unsupervised free roam until they are 100% pad trained. For me it would be impossible to hear a baby crying and ignore him, perhaps X-pen / Iris pen may eliminate the crying when he needs to be confined but crate him when you have to leave the house.
