At night try putting an article of your clothing in the crate, perhaps a blouse or shirt that you wore that day, it will have your scent on it and that can be a comfort to him. If the crate is near your bed stick your hand or fingers in it so he can smell you are right there. If you cave in to him and take him out and put in your bed he will expect it every night.
