Every time the puppy comes near him he just runs away. And your saying this is normal? Should I keep the potty area seperate too! Also if I hold the puppy and then later go to pick up Toby he won't cuddle because he can smell the puppy, he will hold his head away from me. Your older baby is scared because puppies have a different scent, a puppy smell, something your older one cannot identify, then the puppy is very frisky and nippy also scaring your older one, yes, this is normal behavior in a older dog when a new furball enters the scene. Why not put a 2nd pee pad alongside Tobys, I would not confuse the puppy by putting his pad elsewhere, the puppy may start having accidents. Toby is just jealous that you held the baby and reason he turns his head away from you, and YES, things will get better, it can take weeks or months for the older baby to accept the new kid, it all depends on toby's personality. Make sure Toby is always #1 to have his food dish put down, first to get the treat, first to get greeted when you come home. Before you know it, they will be zooming through the house and wrestling with each other lol. Do not force Toby on the puppy, let Toby go to the puppy on his time and his terms. Always supervise them, never leave the two alone without you there. Happy, cheerful praise when Toby goes near the puppy to sniff it. They will be BFF before you know it. Is the new puppy male or female and what is the puppy's name.
