In my humble opinion, no reputable breeder would ever breed any dog of any breed with known genetic defects. Some defects can be determined through genetic testing, others are the result of combining genetic markers and weaknesses when certain lines are mixed.
If all registries such as AKC, CKC, etc. required testing of all breeding stock prior to registering their offspring, perhaps we would have healthier dogs with fewer genetic defects. But then again, registries, breeders, medical tests, etc., are only as accurate as the people behind them are honest. |
