I would take him to be around other dogs to see how he acts first. Some dogs are very happy being the only dog. Really it would be up to you about what sex you got. I have heard many many ways to introduce dogs and I have always just set them down in the house and watched carefully. That is how we did it when I was growing up and we have never had any issues.
