I have always had females of various breeds, then I got hooked on yorkies and ended up with a pack of 3 girls, all 3 years apart. I had no problems with them They all got along with each other, they were all very well socialized with all animals, dogs of every size and ppl.. Socializing at a young age is very important. A little sister would be cute to have and males do get along better with females but both must be spayed and neutered. It also depends on the personality of the dogs. The general way of introducing an only fur child with a new fur member is on natural grounds. A place out of your home or yard. A leashed meet and greet. If you are getting a puppy this may not be possible, a wee little puppy should not be exposed to the outside world until all vaccines have been given, so you may have to introduce them in your home. Most older dogs a scared of wee lil bouncing balls of nipping fur, and puppies have a different smell, so older dogs cannot identify it's a dog. Most older dogs will not take to a new kid right away due to a frisky nippy puppy and will keep their distance, but they do come around, it could take a few week to a couple of months for the older one to accept the new kid, but when this happens they will be BFF. Good luck and please do keep us posted on what you have decided to get.
