Private breeders use AKC too its really the only way to prove pure breed. Reputable breeders in the US use AKC so I would be a bit worried since she didn't she might not be that great of a breeder who did all the genetic testing and such that a reputable breeder uses so I do recommend pet insurance that covers genetic issues their are a lot of them that yorkies are prone to and the smaller they are the more they might end up hurting themselves.
