Dog Won't stop barking when I leave the house.

Hi. Recently got a 3 years old yorkie. He previously loved in an apartment in NYC with previous owner. He now lives with me in a house in Michigan. He's the sweetest dog ever. But when I happen to leave the house, he instantly starts barking non stop. Neighbors were advising me so I could come home. Could this be separation anxiety? Any proven solution? At most he only spends 5 hours of alone time. And I leave radio on. I was letting him roam free around house but because of loud barking I have been placing him in a doggie playoennkn the basement. Hoping if he barks loudly he can't be heard outdoors. I keep reading about some collars or sprays, I don't know where to start. I don't want to place him there every time we leave. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks! Susana
