 How much to feed
Hi need some advice.
Just adopted a 3 year old yorkie. I have never had a small dog before. Initially, he was having some diarrhea when I brought him home. Went to PetSmart and they recommended feeding him Nutro. My other dog (terrier) eats one meal a day. I was told that Yorkies need to eat multiple meals a day.
On the nutro bag it doesn't have portion recommendations for the weight of my dog. The smallest amount it has is 15lbs and it says 15 lbs dogs should get 3/4 cup of food per day. Since he is less than that I have been giving him 1/2 cup per day divided into 2 1/4 cup feedings (at 8am and 5-6pm).
He always finishes all is food very quickly. I feel like I am starving him because it doesn't look like much food and then he scavenges for food.
I would leave food out for him but my other dog would eat it.
Since I think he is hungry I have taken to feeding him 3 times a day. At 8am at 5pm and at 9pm.
Another thing is I don't want him to go to the bathroom at night (between 11p-8a)....when should I cut of food for him?
