Two dogs can always "breed" and it wouldn't take much on your part to "know what you are doing." Paying $1,000 is not a lot of money for a well-bred pup and surely isn't an indication if the dog should be bred. Breeders dedicate their lives to the breed and do not breed without health testing plus conformation titles. For true breeders, it's likely they never see a profit. If you're hoping to be reimbursed for your expense I implore you to change your mind. Volunteering at an animal shelter and seeing the massive amounts of "pet quality" dogs euthanized would surely give you a different perspective.
