Problems caused by early spaying is more of an issue with larger dogs than with smaller dogs. Research is being conducted on this at the UC Davis Veterinary College.
Here is a long thread from Yorkietalk that goes over the pros and cons. The most recent information is towards the end of this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...n-if-ever.html |
Thanks Phil for posting that thread. I am in the process of culling for more research.
And like Linda (Ladyjane) says I have seen no build up of research on effects on s/n on toy breeds not to mention specific to Yorkies.
How ever mid to large breeds are a different story imo.
For Yorkies though I would happily s/n at 8mths old or so. Leg hiking is not a health issue - but a behaviour one, as is also temperament supposed benefits. Temp is both genetic and how you train and raise your pup.
