My experience with dogs and cats is that a kitten will adjust and love a dog, the dog will lovingly accept his new playmate. Cats, on the other hand, do not seem as willing. Our cats tolerate the dogs, the dogs are afraid of the cats. The cats will walk up and sit in the middle of them all and the dogs freeze in fear. The dogs will surround the cat, staying about 1 foot away and bark like crazy, if the cat runs - they give chase and stay at the safe distance.
